Graphic Design was my first love and as I became more familiar with computers I ventured into a realm where few designers ever explore... programming. I must admit I wasn't a big fan of C++ at first and almost stopped there, but when I was introduced to PHP I fell in love again. There's just something about web development that I find completely satisfying. It's beautiful to visualize something in your mind and be able to create a website in a matter of minutes. It thrills me to see ideas from all over the world and be able to share my own little corner of life with others. The internet is more than just a tool for me, it's a canvas, a teacher, a funny friend, a community of friends, and (in a strange way) my home. I'm very passionate about the web and what better way to live then to help make it better.
In 2009 I received my bachelors degree from Dixie State College in Computer Information Technologies. While at Dixie I was an active student and was involved in many of the campus life activities. I became the President of the ACM Club (Association of Computing and Machinery), and won the prestigious Student of the Year award for my department. I also designed the new mascot for Dixie College "Red Storm", and tutored many of the students in the CIT department.
Once I graduated from college I moved up to Salt Lake City, UT where I was hired by Classtop to build Facebook applications. It's rewarding to see how the Facebook application Yearbook has grown from 3 to 12 million users over the course of a year. While building the Yearbook application, we faced many challenges like how to scale to meet the needs of so many users. I feel we have met these challenges quickly and have succeeded in creating a great application. It makes me happy to think that such a large amount of people are getting joy from our application.
Because I have such a large range of skills, each day at work is completely different. Some days I'm redesigning the interface of our applications, or building email campaigns; while other days I'm building flash banner ads, video presentations, and splash pages. I absolutely love what I do, no matter what that might be for the day. I absolutely love building interactivity into a site whether I'm using JavaScript or Flash, and it's nice to be able to have the skills necessary to accomplish anything that is thrown at me.
When I'm not at work I like to explore my creativity through drawing and photography, or read a technical manual on the latest web technology. I love to learn and I hope someday to have the time to be able to teach the skills I've learned to others.
