New Mascot for Dixie State College

In 2009 Dixie State College changed their mascot from the Rebel Roster to the Red Storm. A competition was held to see who could design the new look for the college, and it was a great honor to have my design chosen. The guidelines given were that the look of the mascot had to represent the new name "Red Storm", but the character mascot on the field would be a bull, and it was their desire to somehow combine these two aspects. Southern Utah is famous for its red sand, and strong winds which often lead to dust devils. I immediately thought of the Tasmanian devil featured in Loony Tunes. I drew several iterations of the design and then scanned in a rough sketch into Photoshop. I finalized the edges in Photoshop and colored in the character using three hues of red. I selected a font that looked windblown, and created both a colored version of the font and a black one. In my design I thought carefully about all of the mediums in which the mascot would be printed on and created several iterations that would allow the mascot to pop on red background, and be simplified for embroidery. I even created several different faces which could later be used in marketing.
